Job Opportunity: PROCOL Kenya Prosperity Index (PI) Data Analyst

Job title: Research Assistant. Full Time

Minimum period 9 months: January-September 2021

Minimum experience required: Recent graduate/masters graduate. 0 to 3 years experience.

Salary: 150,000 Kenya Shillings per month

Job Description

· Work with IGP Data Team in London on PI and related work

· Statistical analysis of Afrobarometer data

· Assist in developing PI indicators from qualitative and quantitative PI work

· Develop question library for PI in Dar es Salaam, Elgeyo-Marakwet County and potentially other locations in Kenya/East Africa - CORE questions and CONTEXTUAL questions following IGP PI Methodology

· Assist in workshop preparation (indicator and question consultation with citizen science teams in Dar es Salaam and Elgeyo-Marakwet)

· Support IGP researchers with running of co-production workshops in Dar es Salaam, Elgeyo-Marakwet, and other locations

· Support IGP researchers training of citizen scientists in household survey methods

· Produce PI household survey questionnaire for Dar es Salaam and Elgeyo-Marakwet

· Adapt KOBO Toolbox Survey for Dar es Salaam and run initial tests discuss with IGP Data Team in London

· Assist in drafting data collection guidelines for household survey teams

· Assist in development of sampling for household survey

· Oversee household survey data collection and communicate with IGP researchers/NGOs managing citizen science teams with Assistance of IGP Data Team in London

· Assist in running weekly data quality checks during data collection

· Drafting texts for academic and non-academic audiences

· Quantitative analysis with topics related to prosperity

· Statistical analysis of national census and other national and regional data sets in Kenya and Tanzania

Essential Skills

· Econometrics/ Statistic skills

· Use of SPSS, STATA or R

· Use of GIS (ArcGIS or QGIS)

· Writing skills

· Use of Microsoft Office (especially excellent use of Microsoft Excel including graph and table generation)

· Strong coordination and management skills: Working within a team and coordinating researchers

· Experience creating surveys (KOBO Toolbox, surveymonkey, google survey or other)

· Good command of Swahili and English

· Ability to follow citation styles (bibtex, APA)

Line Management

· Report directly to IGP Data Team

· Based in IGP’s PROCOL Kenya team at the British Institute in Eastern Africa (BIEA) in Nairobi
